Game Recap: Women's Soccer |
Greencastle, Ind.: After a quiet first half, the DePauw women's soccer team found its footing and shut out Manchester University 6-0 in its home opener. The Tigers move to 1-0-1 for the season, while Manchester drops to 0-1.
Though the Tigers put up 14 shots and seven corner kicks and gave up nothing on its defensive end in the first half, the two teams were knotted up at zero at halftime. Four minutes into the second half, something clicked for DePauw, and the scoring onslaught began. In the 49th minute of play, first-year Adelaide Allgeier pushed a pass through the Spartan's back line to find fellow first-year Katharine Lacy for goal number one of the day.
Just three minutes later, Lacy would settle another pass, this time from Jayla Logan, for the second goal of the afternoon. In the 58th minute, Allgeier's corner kick set up Macy Miller for an emphatic header to put DePauw up 3-0. The Tigers' front line was relentless when forced to regain possession, resulting in multiple dispossessions in front of the goalie box.
Lacy would help facilitate the scoring of DePauw's fourth goal after finding Sophia Patrey, who buried the ball into the Mountaineers' net. Another first-year combo goal came in the 64th minute following a pass from Emily Streeter to Mia Kubek for goal number five. The Tigers' final goal came in the 90th minute by Logan.
The Tigers finished the afternoon with a 29-0 shot advantage and 15 corner attempts while giving up no corners on the defensive end. Five different players scored six goals, and three of the five assisted goals were facilitated by three different players.
Aubree Empie and Taylor Beard split time in goal for the Tigers, with neither goalkeeper facing a shot. For Berea, Madilyn VanDerWeele played most of the game and finished with 10 saves, and Claire German played in goal for the final eight minutes.
The Tigers' next game is Friday, September 6, at 7 p.m. CDT in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where DePauw will take on Carthage.

- I chose DePauw for a number of different reasons. First, the University takes academics very seriously and wants their students to excel. I am looking to study in the field of chemistry and believe that DePauw's math and science programs are recognized for their high quality education. I also love the liberal arts style for a school, where I can explore other opportunities and expand my areas of interest. I was recruited by several Division I soccer programs, but decided to play at DePauw, because I really liked the coach and the team, and DePauw will provide me the opportunity to play soccer but also will allow me to enjoy the full college experience.
