Coming back from spring break was not fun. After having a week off, I was not ready to get back into the school mode.

My 8-year-old's school holiday request? The local Treetops Challenge. Think zip wires and wobbly bridges 30m in the air - definitely a stretch for someone who isn’t fond of heights (me! 🙋♀️).But, as we pushed through and faced our fears, we realised the power of:1️⃣ Vulnerability: Asking for help from those who’ve gone before is reassuring. 2️⃣ Support and kindness: Encouragement sometimes comes when you least expect it, and it really helps when you're about to take a leap of faith.3️⃣ Getting familiar with fear: After facing the same fear repeatedly, it starts to lose its grip.4️⃣ Tough Moments = Great Rewards: The most challenging parts often lead to the best experiences. Zip lining through the rainforest? Worth it.5️⃣ Getting out of our comfort zone: Sometimes, you've just got to do it scared, especially when backing out isn't an option (there were NO exits from the treetop ledges, other than stepping off!)It was a day of facing fears, building trust in ourselves and learning that we're capable of more than we think. Would I do it again? Yep, probably :-)

The end of school is near, yet again, and you may be bringing over the thought of the summer fast approaching. Many parents aren't quite sure how to manage the time when children are off of their school schedule. Here are some tips:Take what is most important to you and set that into the schedule first, ensuring nothing is taking over that. Take what is the next thing that is most important to you (i.e. Having nap times scheduled in, children's time with friends, children's times reading, etc....) and structure things around that. Next, add in those things that just be done but aren't as important as the top 2 above. Think about what is REALISTIC and be willing to choose and give way to things that already aren't as needed. Having a schedule, a routine, a constancy each day for our children helps them to:~Behave well~Be to bed on time, etc....~Stay focused on the priorities But it also helps us to do the same. For a Summer Weeklong Program that helps your child learn self-discipline, focus, and perseverance while excelling in their Reading and Math concepts, contact me through this page. ❤️

Today is the first time in over 20 years that I've had to think about schools and 'The Summer Holidays'.Maybe I didn't notice at the time, but in my short trousers, shirt and tie days, the big Back To School push was the last two weeks of August and every kid who got dragged shopping had the same reaction to seeing those signs go up (which I won't repeat here). Now as a grown up and a marketer, I have conflicting opinions about Very's campaign. When I saw the ad before English summer holidays had even begun and single game of Ker-Plunk or Mousetrap had been played, I genuinely thought "Oh, do sod off".My first instinct was that this is another example of Christmas Creep, where the campaigns for certain events gets earlier and earlier - I understand the desire to be first out with the message and make that mental connection with your brand and the day, but Back To School before the majority of the UK has even finished with the old school year?I am also likely not alone in buying new uniform AT THE LAST POSSIBLE SECOND. Growth spurts have meant buying three pairs of school shoes in the last 9 months and I would reckon many parents look at this the same way. There's also a little bit of being a touch fed up of wishing your life away, where we're constantly being hustled along to the next thing and if I'm brutally honest, as excited as my kid is to go to the next school year, I'm going to be doing all I can to give her some fabulous Summer Holiday experiences and for her to enjoy the days she has. Of course, I eventually remembered about Scottish schools who return in August, but even those start dates are about a month after the campaign launched, which feels like too long a lead in time.I do sympathise with Very and I fully understand that between new school uniform, all the stationery required, shoes, PE Kit and trainers, it's a lot of money to pay out at once, which means getting people to know about it early.I may still have the same reaction to this as when I was 12, but I don't like it. It feels like there's no downtime for the kids to relax and recuperate before being bundled back into a new school year. Similarly, for the Very brand, it seems quite cynical and commercial in trying to get consumers to buy school supplies rather than providing value of the service, particularly when the messaging is going out while English school kids are still in their old classrooms and uniforms. I fully accept that there may be something in this that I've missed, but as someone who, for the next 6 weeks, has to keep a tiny, semi-sociopathic bundle of endless energy and insatiable desire for sweeties entertained, I'm part of the target audience and it hasn't connected with me. Although I'm also not sure that I'd be the one in that marketing meeting recommending that the entire campaign is condensed into a one-week crunch with satiated advertising, either!https://lnkd.in/eCmEm-bU
